by Stanley Gregory Sclavos
We were born five days apart, my cous and I; We lived in the same house and as babies we cried. We crawled and we were even christened together, My cous and I.
We went to the same school together; my cous and i. We even played soccer together and we scored many goals. It looked like no one could separate us. But something did, and that was leukaemia.
When my mum told me he was sick, I though this was some sort of trick. I held up my chin for my cous and I, It was something hard but I tried.
We went in and out of hospital; my cous and I. He had needles, he had tests. I thought he was the bravest and the best. And do you know why? Simple, because he was and will always be, my cous.

The poem below was written by his Eminence Archbishop Stylianos - Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia. It has been kindly translated by Mr Chris Andalis. BLESSED ARE THE PURE AT HEART
God thought best, and you with your loved ones, Accepted it with without complaint. That your stay on this earth would be But only ten years.
Then you were to take flight to the other side. Relishing before all of us, "weeping here", The amazement of everlasting peace.
You endured so much pain and suffering Yet your friendly nature gave you Thousands of friends around the world.
Now as you embrace Eternity It is our turn to cope with the pain of losing you, Never to see your smile again.
Bless are the Pure at Heart, And you are supremely revered. May we all enjoy God one day too Dear Stanley Sydney- Brighton Le Sands 19-4-2003

Stanley, The Smiling Child
In my mind blurred with pain, Your silhouette appears like a vision A little Aussie with a loving face. Now I am trying to find solace in my recollection.
Suddenly you came uninvited, into my life. You made me yours, you entered my soul. You captivated me with your courage and strength. Yes you, strong willed, trying to overcome your illness.
With you I ventured into a new spiritual journey. You made me perceive deeper values in my being. You wished to learn many aspects of life, about God and divine things and you believed me.
I'm saddened that I didn't have a chance to meet you earlier. To be able to see you deeper, into your innocent heart. I'm grateful to God through the short time He blessed me to enjoy you and be accept by you as your friend.
Now with a weary heart, I think of you Stanley, I seek your laughter, your friendly voice. But you, little angel, have spread your wings and flown to Him who loves you more than I do.
My friend, I implore you not to forget me, a mere human, because I won't forget you, my smiling little one. You'll always dwell in my thoughts and deep in my heart. And in my mind I'll pamper your memory
Now my ageing mind is consoled with one pleasing thought. I think of you in your heavenly home. On your handsome face wearing a broad smile, that is as bright as you angelic shining halo.
