Thank You Father Gerasimos & The Greek Community of Greenport

I celebrated the very important milestone of 100 days post transplant - 7 July 2002, by having Holy Communion in SS. Anargyroi, Taxiarhis and Saint Gerasimos in Greenport Long Island. Our family spent three wonderful days exploring the sites and sounds of the eastern parts of Long Island

Father Gerasimos and his wife Presvitera have become close family friends since the Sclavos Family moved to New York. How Father met our family is quite a set of circumstances. Father Gerasimos' brother-in-law was playing net backgammon with a family friend and Pharmacist, Peter Angus from Brisbane. Their discussions lead to Father visiting Stanley in hospital on a number of occasions and giving important spiritual and emotional support both before and after Stanley's transplant. Father visited Stanley despite his Parish being two and a half hours drive from New York. Father had told Stanley that he wanted Stanley to be strong and would celebrate with Stanley by inviting him to visit his Parish in Greenport and have Holy Communion there.

The visit coincided with the Greenport Greek Festival which Stanley attended. The community support went even further and are supporting Stanley's treatment. We would like to sincerely thank the community for their support. The church is located in Main St Greenport.

Greenport, a historic ship building and fishing village, which was founded in 1640. Situated on the north fork of eastern Long Island, Greenport has been home to whaling ships, coastal sailing traders, fisherman and yachtsman for the last 350+ years. Greenport is still home to a fleet of deep sea, coastal, bay and trap fishing vessels.

Stanley celebrated day 100 by having his first post transplant restaurant meal at Claudio's. Established in 1870, Claudio's Restaurant is the oldest same family run restaurant in the United States.  We stayed for two nights at a lovely bed and breakfast called Arbor View House. This elegant Victorian house is situated in East Marion just east of Greenport. The innkeepers are Wilfred and Veda Joseph. You can see Wilfred in this photo.

Each Sunday it is common for hundreds of Harley Davidsons to drive to Greenport. Stanley was impressed with the Harleys    Stanley was pleased that his Grandmothers and mothers could rest, not having to cook breakfast for Stanley. Wilfred made a great breakfast
Southampton is famous for its expensive ocean mansions. The famous Montauk Point Lighthouse is in the background. Situated in the eastern part of the southern fork, this lighthouse was authorised in 1795 by George Washington
