won a trip to the 2002 Winter Olympics
Right:In
this photo Susie O'Neill congratulated me with my Sister Nina. Susie O'Neill
won a Gold and Silver medal in swimming at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Susie
is now on the I.O.C. Athletes Commission.
We
raised $5000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital. The money was raised to buy
presents for the children, a computer for the Outpatient area at the
hospital, and three televisions and video players to use on the ward. We
also bought two inspirational prints of Susie O'Neill and Grant Hackett
which are now
on the ward. I was very happy my class mates decided to help children like
me in the hospital. The aim of the project was to make children happy and we
certainly did that. On the day we gave the presents we made a visit to the
ward. My class mates and I gave the children at Banksia Ward activity books
and morning tea that we had prepared at school. The doctors, nurses and
parents loved the visit also.
We
also purchased computer games and programs for the computer. We loaded the
games fully onto the computer so that the children would not have to load
the CD Roms. Every time I go to the ward there is a child
playing on the computer. This makes me happy.

children waiting for treatment
In
2001 I made the school team for the State Trivia Challenge. Our team won the
Silver Medal. I really like trivia.
Unfortunately I became sick again just after Christmas 2001. In March 2002 I
went to New York to have a bone marrow transplant. I am very lucky that my
sister Nina was a match. The hospital I attending was
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital. My Doctor is Dr Nancy Kernan. The
transplant started Monday 18th March 2002. I returned to Australia
on 7th September 2002. Unfortunately I relapsed on 10th October 2002. In
November we went back the the USA and I am hoping to have a second
transplant soon.
While in
the United States in 2002 I managed to graduate the year of school. The school year
in the United States finishes in June. I was also featured in a world wide
Microsoft conference about the use of the internet and software in schools.
I
was happy to arrive back in Brisbane in September 2002 and visit my school
even if it was only for a short time. Some friends came to the airport to
see me. Mrs Pearce and my 5E Class had some web video links when I was in
New York. I bought back some small presents for my classmates.
In the picture below you can see my headmaster
Mr Paul with the Yankees hat I bought him. Also pictured below right is Mr
Hine the Head of Primary School and Mrs Henderson Head of Senior Primary
School.
My teach for Year 6 in 2003 is Mrs Kathy Hicks. I also had Mrs Hicks in Year
4. She is fantastic. I hope to get better soon so I can go back to school in
Brisbane.
