Thanks John Paul College

Stanley’s School John Paul College assisting to fundraise monies for his treatment in New York. It was an amazing effort and one that really impressed staff at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York. It showed the wonderful school spirit at the school. The total raised was $15167.75. The posts listed below are from the school internet site my JPC. Stanley is proud of his school who even set up web cams for him and Nina to watch and are sending good wishes for his treatment. Stanley and the school and their I.T. capabilities were featured at the Microsoft International Conference in New Orleans in July 2002.

5/03/2002 | The Challenge is Set!
The Headmaster Mr Steve Paul today issued a challenge to the entire school family to raise more than $5000 to support Stanley Sclavos' Bone Marrow treatment in New York. If any extra motivation was required, it came in the form of eight staff members who have agreed to have their heads (and beard) shaved if the target is reached. In conjunction with the Leukaemia Foundation's 'Shave for a Cure' program, the teachers facing the clippers include: Mr Henderson, Mr Crameri, Mr Stumpf, Mrs Leyden, Mr Adams, Mr Lennon, Mr Kanasa and, Mr Horsfall (the beard gets it!) Year 12 students Frank Conias and Candice Dover will also have their heads shaved on the End of Term Assembly on 28 March if the target is reached. Stay tuned for target updates!

27/3 | We're Making a Difference!
Please know that the support generated for Stanley has meant so much to the Sclavos family in New York. This was part of an email received from Effie Sclavos today.
The support from so many parents (including the many that I don't know) has been so moving. We are so proud of our school and our school community. The staff here at Memorial Sloan-Ketting Hospital have been truly surprised by the great school spirit displayed when Stanley is so far from home - they've never seen in before. Believe it or not, it also helps us keep our mind sane, knowing that we can link up with you guys at almost anytime. Thanks and love to all.
Effie

27/3 | Watch 'the shave' live
The Headmaster's Assembly on Thursday 28th March will be video streamed live to allow everyone, including Stanley and Nina in
New York, to see our brave teachers and students having their heads (and a beard) shaved. Log onto JPC at 2.00pm for all the shaving action.

27/3 | All Systems Go in New York
A very brave Nina Sclavos is not at all scared as she prepares to enter hospital tomorrow to donate her bone marrow to Stanley. Read on for further details .... Meanwhile, Stanley has come through radiation and chemotherapy and is due to receive Nina's bone marrow on Thursday evening (that's Good Friday in Australia, so remember Stanley in your Easter prayers). The doctors and nurses will be taking extra care of Stanley for the two weeks following the transplant, as Stanley's immunity is almost zero and Nina's hasn't yet taken within him. Stanley will be staying up late on Wednesday night (New York time) to log onto
JPC to see the end of term assembly.

26 Mar 02: It might have been 11pm in New York but nothing was going to stop Stanley watching the School Assembly live via web streaming. Stanley saw all the kind staff and students shaving their heads. A prize was given to the person whose head most resembled an Easter Egg. Stanley was yelling Frank Conias from his bed. Could you hear him JPC?

This Email from JPC 2 Apr 02: The Admin Staff decided to do their bit for the Stanley Appeal. They all paid $5:00 for the ‘pleasure’ of having a mad hair afternoon on the last Thursday of term 1- raising $70

Patricia White was the lollipop lady- 11 chupa-chups in her hair with Stanley and Nina written on them. She was later that evening to be found in the Slacks Creek Soccer Club- auctioning them and raising $113.25 cents for five chupa chups! Well done Slacks Creek Soccer Club.!

1 Apr 02: We had a wonderful surprise visit from Miss Marcia Kewley a 9PC & Secondary School Science teacher from John Paul College. It was an amazingly kind gesture to visit while on a short holiday in New York. 5 April 02: Stanley today received the wonderful ‘Hero Mail’ parcel from JPC. Children donated 50c and in return they sent a message of good will to Stanley and Nina. What a great way for Stanley to pass his days in hospital. The book was signed by students and teaches from all grades. It was even signed by Olympian Jacqui Cooper.

Cards from JPC students fill our New York apartment

Is it the New York Times.. no the The Wall Street Journal ... no its The Eagle in New York with Nina on the cover.
