14 Mar 02- This is my Doctor –Nancy A. Kernan. She is so friendly and has lots of patience for all my questions 14 Mar02- Nina and I are doing ‘medical play’ with Sr Therese, where we are shown what will happen to us. Therese brings me lots of games
19 Mar 02 – Richard J. O'Reilly, MD founded the MSKCC Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Service 30 years ago. He performed the first marrow transplant in the world in 1969 for a related sibling (like Nina) then in 1973 performed the first transplant successfully from an unrelated donor. He has been fantastic in helping me feel right at home in New York 21 Mar 02 – Here are the Radiation Therapists. I have Radiation Treatment three times a day. They are fantastic and let me watch videos while I’m in the room. Dad has even been giving me WWF Wrestling commentary over the intercom as he watches me get my treatment on a TV Camera.
21 Mar 02- Here I am getting ready for my Radiotherapy. I need to stand very still 21 Mar 02- This is my teacher Ms Fran. She gave me a little test today and left me ScienceWorld Books
21 Mar 02 – This Awesome Guy is the Paediatric Oncology Fellow. His name is Dr Kevin Heller. He is lots of fun. Today he wore his Bowling Bow Tie to match my pyjamas 21 Mar 02- Here are the Clowns from the Big Apple Circus. They made my shoes squeak when I was on my way to Radiotherapy
IMPORTANT DAY FOR MY SISTER NINA-28 Mar 02 – Nina was very brave when she went under an anaesthetic to give her brother Stanley the gift of life. The bone marrow harvest operation was performed at 7:30am and went for one and a half hour. The marrow was then treated for the rest of the day and Stanley received the marrow at 11:00pm. Nina gets connected to fluids and prepared for the ultimate gift to her brother
28 Mar 02 – Dad and Mary-Eliza play the WWF game with Stanley
28 Mar 02 – Nina recovers after anaesthesia. Pictures here with Grandmother Nina 28 Mar 02- Nina is still recovering from her operation when Dr Boulard and Sr Ana come
31 Mar 02 – Easter Sunday. I was given this lovely Easter basket when I woke up for my morning blood test. Danella helped Mum and Nina eat the lollies inside. 5 April 02 – Six days after the transplant. I have been experiencing some pain from mouth ulcers and nausea and vomiting. I keep busy when I have energy building lego and watching videos.
7 Apr 02- This is Sr Courtney. She goes to the gym before she starts work and then her shift goes for 12 hours. Wow she must get tired. 9 Apr 02- Mary-Eliza plays lego with me. Mary Eliza looks after me on more days than anyone else. She is really nice to me
10 Apr 02- Adeline is my regular night nurse She has taught me how to draw up my own blood. I am holding a vial of my own blood. 11 Apr 02- Because I has having headaches the Doctors ordered an x-ray of my head. I did not even have to leave the room. They came to me. They found I had sinusitis. I am taking a medicine to get rid of the sinusitis
11 April 02 – Here I am with my Child Life Specialist Amy who works overtime to keep me busy and entertained. 11 Apr 02- This is Pedro who is from Cyprus and who works as an escort in the hospital. He is very good to me. Escorts take patients for their tests in other parts of the hospital. Here I am on my way for a cat scan.
